The Commonwealth Games 2018 have given India innumerable pleasing memories as our athletes have achieved new heights in almost every event. India has delivered such tremendous performance only twice before in Commonwealth Games. This year, it appeared as if India was on a gold rush achieving maximum golds in their medal tally as India's figures were: 26 Golds, 20 silvers and 20 bronze medals. India obtained the 3rd highest number of golds this year and 4th highest overall medal count.

India according to figures was the best nation in 5 disciplines, weightlifting, shooting, wrestling, badminton and table tennis, and the second best nation in boxing. India topped it's previous CWG medal count by finishing their run with a handsome 66 medals in it's pocket. These games displayed the young talent in India as this year young athletes have achieved new feats.

Manika Batra was the star performer in these games as she secured 4 medals to her name icluding 2 golds, a silver and a bronze. The 22 year old became the first Indian woman to win a gold in Table Tennis singles. Our youngsters, Manu Bhaker and Anish Bhanwala won gold medals in shooting at mere 16 and 15 years of age respectively. A gold medal in Javelin throw by Neeraj Chopra is one such feat that India has never achieved before. Our wrestling contingent displayed a 100% result as each and every wrestler who participated won a medal. 

Apart from this, Indian weightlifters brought 9 honors to the country and our shuttlers added 6 honors to India's name. India's boxing performance was also exceptionally good as we won 9 medals in boxing including a medal from Mary Kom who won  a gold in her first Commonwealth participation. There were many instances this year where India won 2 medals in the same event. Also who would not like to see more matches like that of Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu battling for gold and confirming both gold and silver for the country in the same event.

But while India performed exceptionally good in some events, others were disappointing too  for example: Atheletics. Though this time India sent many athletes, still it managed to grab only 3 medals: A gold from Javelin throw and a silver and bronze from discuss throw. Also the performance in men and well as women hockey was disappointing as both the teams lost their semi-finals as well as their respective bronze medal match. There was disappointment in cycling and swimming too as India didn't even finish close to a medal.

These are the fields where India needs to improve and these have been the weak points of India since the beginning. Though there is a bit improvement but still India has miles to go, if it wants to win medals in these fields in future. Overall, it was not the best but one of the best run by India as far as Commonwealth Games are considered and performing better and better in future is the only thing one can hope for, to successfully reach where one dreams to be.
